Top 10 List

Prospero:

1. Prospero uses his magic to control anything and everything around him. He is made to look as if he is a god throughout the Tempest. This has a subliminal message proving that he is a good leader. This is almost exactly like what royalty would have been like in the 1600s. Royalty controled everything under Monarchy. Monarchy is a differrny style of government that mainly Europe used.
2. Prospero uses white magic using and supporting nature. Prospero does things that you would make seem evil to the reader such as imprisoning Ariel and Caliban and using them as slaves. But he also does other thing including refusing to injure anyone through the whole play and giving up his powers that make the reader subside into forgiveness and empathy for him and also believing he is a “good guy.” This deals with the era of time when everyone blamed the unexplainable on witches. 3. Prospero almost has a godly goodness to him. He is human in the fact of where he calls Antonio a trader. But the interesting part is how Prospero does not treat anyone anytime during the whole play like they are a traitor. The only time he is rude is when he is first talking to Ferdinand but this is only because he is protecting his daughter Miranda.
4. Some people see Prospero as an egocentric person who feels he has the right to control everyone to get what he wants. This is shown by all the controlling of everyone around him.
5. Prospero may also be demonic because of the way he manipulates people. He might be manipulative like Satan. Prospero is willing to change the rest of his daughter’s life just to get the throne back.
6. Prospero is a very powerful person whether he is good or bad. He manipulated many people and created three sets of chained events in which led to getting his thrown back while keeping every one safe. He also managed to marry off his daughter to the Prince of Naples. He is a very smart and powerful man to pull off the sting he did using magic whenever he needed.
7. Prospero is an extremely understanding man which enables him to forgive every one around him. He is even able to forgive people who were trying to kill him before. All Prospero wants is what is rightfully his. He does not want what is not his.
8. Prospero was a duke meaning he was very powerful and he did rule himself as if he was a king, like monarchy. But only of his territory. This means that he was some how related to the royal family. He has more power than viceroys, barons, and counts.
9. Prospero may also be a hypocrite. He constantly puts down and is very critical of Syrocrax. He calls her a witch more than I can remember. The funny thing is that there pasts are very similar. They both use magic and they were both banished from where they once lived. They also stipulate servitude from others and have very strong anger when it comes their way.
10. Prospero is very often described as a two sided person or contradicts himself. You can say he is bipolar. He is also in denial of his rude manipulations of every one around him. He controls every one at his beckon call and demands things of Ariel that are utterly ridiculous and selfish.

Monologue

Prospero

Act 1 Scene 2

Prospero:
I am trying to explain to Miranda how everything is okay and how I didn’t hurt anyone. I continue to explain how everything I am doing for her and to make her life better. I have other thoughts in my head that I haven’t told Miranda. I am trying to kill two birds with one stone. This all comes from my motivation to get my throne back to me, it’s rightful owner. I might come off as a shady and rude character to you but in actuality I am just trying to get back what is mine and give my daughter the best life as possible. I am trying to soothe Miranda by explaining that what I did is right because I am humble old guy on the island doing what is best for my daughter. I explain to Miranda how I was the Duke of Milan. I also explain to her that we have been living on this island for twelve years since she was three. I finally explain to Miranda that it was her own uncle who kicked us out of our dukedom. Then I conversed with Ariel about his service and thanked him for it. As I did this Ariel complained about it and asked to be done with me. But then I explain to him very sternly how I had saved him and how he is in debt to me. At the end of this scene I compel Ferdinand and Miranda to slowly fall in love even though you as a reader think I am doing the right thing.

Act3 Scene 1
Prospero:
I end up yelling at Miranda, telling her she is a fool and that she is in love when she came complaining to me about a weird feeling she had gotten when talking to Ferdinand. It hurts me she is so narrow minded and infatuated already that she cant control herself and remember what I told her. After this I feel very much in control and successful. I see my plan folding out in front of me. I then listen to my daughter Miranda expressing how sorry she is about disobeying me and telling Ferdinand her name. I told Miranda to not tell anyone her name because I do not want to give our cover away. I seem to get over this mishap quite quickly because I am immensely happy about the successful uniting of my daughter Miranda and Ferdinand Alonso’s son, the king of Naples. I ultimately feel successful following these events. I am very happy about my daughter well on her way to get married off to other royalty.

Act 4 Scene 1
Prospero:
After realizing I have finally amalgamated my daughter with the man and blood I want her united with. Not only because it is good for her but it also weakens Alonso’s alliance with Antonio. I want to give my daughter a good life and I need to create an alliance with Alonso. This is because a man of honor like Alonso would never turn on his own flesh and blood, his son Ferdinand. I gave Miranda and Ferdinand my blessings and consent for lifelong love. After this I had warned Ferdinand of snatching Miranda’s virginity and on the importance and holiness to waiting till marriage. I also gave him a thought to put him to ease; I told him it won’t be much longer and that he can wait. I ask for this from him because I truly do want the best for my daughter. Then Ferdinand says to me that he would like to live on the island forever with Miranda so this mad me upset because I don’t want my daughter spending the rest of her life here. She has spent too many years on this island already. I had Ariel, my trusty servant, tell me about the three drunkards; my used to be servant Caliban with Stephano and Trinculo. Ariel and I crafted a quite rather interesting trap for these three silly and impractical drunkards. I am not very happy about Calibans conspiracy against me. Even after all I have done to help him.

Act 5 Scene 1
Prospero:
I have a discussion with Ariel the King and his men. Ariel says, Antonio and Sebastian are crazy with anger and Gonzalo won’t stop weeping. I have Ariel go release them from the prison I had them put in to begin with. I am ready to give up my magic powers once I finish one last task because I got what I wanted and needed and I don’t need anymore It would be greedy of me. To do this I have to break my staff and obscure my magic book. I have the King and his men lead to me. I am going to give them a talk with my most charming abilities. After this I grant Ariel his freedom because I feel very thankful for he helped me, maybe even a bit of regretful ness for using him so much. I release every one from spell and forgive every one and demand Antonio return back to our Dukedom because I don’t need to burn bridges right now, I need to be mending as many bridges as possible. I let Alonso in on the truth about Ferdinand and my daughter. Now that everything is back to normal I am giving up my powers. All I wanted to have things back to the way they were. I don’t want anything I already didn’t have.
